The firewall software permits connections to be established from your PCs to the Internet, but not in the other direction. This method protects your PCs from potentially hostile network scans and server-based attacks. The proxy software processes all Web browser requests and caches recently received pages and images, in order to more efficiently share the available connection bandwidth between multiple PCs.
